English
1. Summary
- With your permission, the extension may capture audio that is playing in the current Chrome tab so it can provide real-time transcription and bilingual captions.
- We do not retain your voice audio after it is processed for that caption session, and we do not sell your voice audio or the speech content derived from it.
- For service reliability we record only necessary operational metrics: character counts, language, latency, and error categories.
2. Who we are
The publisher and data controller is uTranslate. This Privacy Policy applies to the uTranslate Live Chrome extension and the related caption service endpoints used by that extension.
Hosts used for captions after you start a live session:
-
slm.utranslate.net— caption API entry (session control and caption results) -
slm-demo.beithing.com— production API backend reached via redirect from the entry host -
live.x.eletker.com— primary encrypted real-time audio transport (WebRTC / WSS) for the caption session -
slm-4rm05o6s.livekit.cloud— backup encrypted real-time audio transport used only if the primary media host is unavailable
Questions about this policy: write to chrome-live@utranslate.net.
3. Permission and consent
Tab audio is processed only after you take an affirmative action in the extension UI (for example, starting live captions). If you do not start a live session, the extension does not capture or transmit tab audio.
You can stop processing at any time by stopping the live session or closing the on-page caption overlay. Stopping ends the active capture session and cleans up the related session resources.
4. What we process
4.1 Tab audio (with your permission)
When live captions are running, the extension captures audio from the active tab and streams it to our caption service so the speech can be transcribed and translated in near real time. Captions are returned to your browser for display.
Retention: voice audio used for a caption session is processed to provide that feature and is not retained as a stored voice archive after the session work is complete.
Sale: we do not sell your voice audio, transcripts, translations, or other speech-derived content to third parties.
4.2 Operational metrics we keep
To operate and improve reliability of the caption service, we may record:
- Character counts (for example, transcript / translation length)
- Language (detected source language and/or selected target language)
- Latency (timing needed to measure responsiveness)
- Error categories (non-content failure classes such as timeout, validation, or connectivity)
These metrics are content-free operational signals. They are not used to rebuild or republish your speech.
4.3 Data kept on your device
The extension may store local preferences (for example, target language and caption style) and short-lived session state needed to show captions. Tab title and URL used in the popup UI remain on your device for that session and are not sent as part of the caption request payload.
5. How we use data
- Provide real-time bilingual captions for the current tab’s audio
- Maintain service reliability and diagnose failures using the metrics above
- Respond to support requests you choose to send by email
We do not use tab audio or speech-derived content for advertising, resale, or unrelated profiling.
6. Sharing and processors
Audio is transmitted only as needed to provide captions, over encrypted connections (HTTPS / WSS / WebRTC). The hosts listed in section 2 act as processors for this single purpose: the API hosts orchestrate the session and return captions; the media hosts carry the live audio stream for transcription and translation only.
We do not sell personal data. Transfers of user data are limited to what is necessary to provide or improve the disclosed caption feature, to comply with law, or to protect security.
7. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
uTranslate Live’s use of user data is limited to providing or improving the extension’s single purpose: real-time bilingual captions for audio playing in the current Chrome tab. We handle user data securely, do not sell it, and do not use it for prohibited secondary purposes such as unrelated advertising.
8. Your choices
- Do not start live captions if you do not want tab audio processed
- Stop an active session to end capture immediately
- Uninstall the extension to remove its local stored preferences
- Contact chrome-live@utranslate.net with privacy questions
9. Changes
If our data practices change in a material way, we will update this page and the effective date. For Chrome Web Store users, material changes to data handling will also be reflected in the listing’s privacy disclosures as required.
